Bodensee / Lake Constance

After spending some time with family in Emmendingen and Freiburg (on the way there, we did stop in Colmar, France and in Schaffhausen, Switzerland) we spent 6 days in a small holiday house in Meckenbeuren (thanks again, Karin and Veit!), close to Lake Constance. Sheep were grazing next to our terrasse, the neighbour’s cat was a constant visitor and the 4 of us enjoyed the first days amongst ourselfes, slowly getting into the travel mode. We did enjoy the quiet and peaceful area a few times before, and coming from a bigger city, the simplicity of staring into an open field immediately brings you into holiday vibe.

We did enjoy walks through the country side, playing games, “Tutto” (https://abacusspiele.de/produkt/tutto/) for example, which has become a favourite of the kids, and, as a decent start into an extended time of travelling, we also enjoyed a whole lot of doing nothing.

We also went to “Ravensburger Spieleland” (https://spieleland.de/), not the first time, but probably the last time, as you can tell that the kids are slowly growing out of it. Nonetheless, this little amusement park remains a gem in the area, and is certainly worth a visit for kids.

And despite some rainy days, we also managed to jump into Lake Constance. A public, beautiful and free beach in Manzell proofed to be just the right location to enjoy the mild temperatures of the 3rd largest lake in Germany. Whilst called Lake Constance in English, the German name “Bodensee” is derived from a small town called “Botnang”, situated on the western end of the lake.

The “Allgäu” is another beautiful part of Germany and it’s south-western end extends towards the Lake Constance area. During our last trip, we enjoyed a Skywalk through the forrest (https://www.waldwelt-allgaeu.de/), and this time, I challenged my kids to a round of football golf (https://www.fussballpark-allgaeu.de/). A lovely, 18 hole football golf course, situated in a small village called “Opfenbach”.
