Slowing down…
I mentioned in my previous blog post that we’re still fairly fast paced in our way of travelling, but I think the week in Kosovo and in particular the 5 days in Prapashtice have helped us to slow down. Spending time on the field and doing manual work was incredibly rewarding, and the 5 days actually felt longer, but in a very good way. Yet again, the 2 night stop in Skopje and the many impressions of a big city are causing brain fog.
We decided to add another longer stay as we realised this is doing us good, so tomorrow, on the 19th of August, when we depart to Lake Ohrid we will stay there for 6 days, making it more enjoyable , more relaxed and easier to enjoy some time “doing nothing”. The “doing nothing” part is quite hard, when you only have a full day or a day and a half in one city with many sites to see. Every hour in the apartment feels almost wasted, but all our heads need time to cool off and digest impressions, as well.
The 6 days in Ohrid will be good! Time on the lake will be good for us. Bathing, enjoying the sun and the scenery, with many national parks in close proximity, for the occasional walk through nature. Tomorrow’s drive is another interesting milestone, as it’s the first drive that doesn’t go further eastbound. Whilst it still doesn’t feel like we’re “going home”, we have now reached the most eastern part of our road trip (that of course doesn’t include our flights to Asia in October). We have about a month to max 6 weeks left until we need to sort out a few things in Germany, and before we go on the 2nd leg of our travels. I reckon, the way back to Germany will consist of fewer, but longer stops. Tirana is still on the list, as are Kotor and Mostar. The Croatian cost might be tricky from a budget perspective, but given the length of the drive, we’ll probably need a stop there, too. And all of sudden, 5 to 6 weeks don’t appear that long anymore…
Again… we’ll keep you posted!
