The Travel Plan

What to do with so much time?! Quite a tricky question, but there was no doubt we’d travel as much as we can. According to the Dalai Lama, once a year, you should go and see a place you haven’t seen before. Having said that, a full year gives you plenty of opportunities to see places you haven’t seen before.

Whilst we wanted to spend the summer in Europe, we’ve been always fascinated by South-East Asia. Having lived in Singapore for a while, we already discovered a few spots in Asia, but the must see list was equally long. And the same was valid for middle and possibly even South-America. We had seen a few places in Venezuela, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala, but so many places were left to be discovered.

For the first part of our journey, the Balkan seemed like the right option. Having talked to many people who have visited Albania, Montengro and North-Macedonia, the area is full of exciting things to see and on the verge of becoming “touristy destinations”. As we had only made it to Slovenia and Croatia in the past, there was plenty left to be seen. The idea was to visit

  • Slovenia

  • Croatia

  • Bosnia & Herzegovina

  • Serbia

  • Kosovo

  • North Macedonia

  • Albania

  • Montenegro

Quite a list of countries, but equally important was to not rush from one place to the next, but to dive into them. We decided that the first leg of our journey would take place with our car. From midst of July 25 to the beginning of Octobre 25 we we setting sails for the Balkan!

On Octobre 7th, we are starting the second part of our Journey. Flights are booked to Medan in Indonesia. We will spent the first 3 weeks on Sumatra and will come up with a plan for our remaining period in Asia, which will probably last until the end of February. We are intending to visit:

  • Indonesia

  • Singapore

  • Thailand

  • Vietnam

  • Laos

  • Cambodia

The exact plan is yet to be determined, but we will keep you posted!

The 3rd and final leg will bring us to the Americas. That’s at least the idea ;). Honestly, we don’t even know where to start, but Mexico seems like a very good option. I was very little when I visited Mexico with my dad, but the idea to see it together with Sarah and the Kids is more than tempting. We are currently brushing up our Spanish skills and ideally, we’d like to to see

  • Mexico

  • Costa Rica

  • Panama

    ….and hopefully even more….
